This
article, McVeigh (2017) focused on the economic impacts of climate change in
Bangladesh. The author argued that climate change may affect the growth rate
and may trap more people in poverty, quantification of these impacts remains
difficult. She found that climate change is a major reason for the decline in
agriculture productions, where livelihoods depend mainly on agriculture. The author
concluded that the increasing rate of salinity will lead to significant
shortage of irrigation water for agriculture production.
McVeigh’s
news article on The Guardian serves an excellent overview of the effect of
climate change on the coastal economy of Bangladesh. Her article is detailed,
descriptive, but not well studied on the impact of climate change on agriculture
and she didn’t mention any solutions, government roadmap. In her claim there is
no strong journal review in the article. This article could be potentially
useful to support my argument about how agriculture industry is impacted by
climate change.
